Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP on a transfer that could cost up to €80 million ($88 million).

The deal includes an initial €55 million payment with a further €25 million in variables. Of those, €5 million were related to the player's appearances, another €5 million subject to United's achievements and a further €15 million based on individual awards.

"Manchester United are delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes," a United statement read. "The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms."

Barcelona were close to signing Fernandes at one point, but United made a breakthrough in negotiations on Tuesday. 

Atletico Madrid is close to agreement with Paris Saint-Germain on the purchase of Edinson Cavani.

The deal will be worth €15 million plus €3 million in bonuses.

Cavani has already agreed to personal terms with Atleti.

Manchester United are considering a new bid to Sporting Lisbon for Bruno Fernandes. 

United had an offer of €45 million (£38 million) plus add-ons for the 25-year-old midfielder rejected by Sporting, who value Fernandes at €85 million.

A second offer is unlikely to go beyond €55 million.

Barcelona had already begun sounding out possible managers and planned to replace Ernesto Valverde this coming summer, but sources say the defeat in the Supercopa hastened those plans.

Barcelona considered firing Valverde last summer after humiliating Champions League exits in consecutive seasons, but they were underwhelmed with the options and he still had the support of the players.

Since then sources explain that Josep Maria Bartomeu had grown increasingly concerned about the team's "image" on the pitch.

Arsenal have interest in signing Layvin Kurzawa of Paris Saint-Germain.

Fullback has been a problematic position for Arsenal this season. Arsenal signed Kieran Tierney from Celtic for £25 million last August knowing he was still recovering from a double hernia operation. Sead Kolasinac has also struggled for fitness.

“We are playing with full-backs that are not full-backs," Mikel Arteta said. “They are wingers or central midfielders and could we afford to lose full-backs? No, but we don’t have any full-backs.”

Neymar and PSG are optimistic over signing a new contract.

The 27-year-old has 2.5 years left on his current deal, although he has been linked with a transfer move back to Barcelona.

Neymar renewing his deal could depend on PSG's results in the Champions League. 

Quique Setien is reportedly close to replacing Ernesto Valverde as the next Barcelona manager.

Several sources in Spain claim that Setien is in Barcelona to negotiate a deal.

Reports also claim that Valverde has said his goodbyes to Barcelona players.

Xavi reportedlly turned down an offer to replace Valverde over the weekend. 

This would be the first time Barcelona has sacked a manager during the season since 2003. 

Bradley Wright-Phillips will train with LAFC for a week.

The 35-year-old striker was not offered a new contract by the Red Bulls over the offseason.

LAFC are looking to improve their striking options with a busy campaign ahead.

Xavi turned down an opportunity to replace Ernesto Valverde as manager, sources told ESPN.

Valverde's future remains up in the air. 

It was though that Valverde's job was safe despite recently stumbles, but club president Josep Maria Bartomeu will now meet with other members of his board to determine the manager's future. 

Xavi could replace Ernesto Valverde as Barcelona manager this summer, sources told ESPN.

Sporting director Eric Abidal and CEO Oscar Grau met with Xavi on Friday.

Valverde's job is not in danger, though this will most likely be his final season.

Ronald Koeman is seen as another candidate to replace Valverde.
